2012 CONCERT PROGRAMME
31st March  2012 7.30pm
St Peter’s Church, Laleham Road, Staines TW18 2DX
W.A. Mozart- Missa Brevis in F - K192
F.J. Haydn - Missa Cellensis in Honorem BVM (Cäcilienmesse)
Mozart's 3rd Missa Brevis, K192 in F major, derives much of its inspiration from the plainsong motif of the Credo. Interestingly, the same motif also became the theme of the final movement of his 41st (and last) symphony (The Jupiter).  Haydn's Solemn (St Cecilia) Mass was written just a few years previously in 1766. Composed for the Court of Esterhazy, it is the first of Haydn's masses written in the `Solemn' style.
14th July 2012 7.30pm
St Peter’s Church, Laleham Road, Staines TW18 2DX
Edward Elgar – The Musicmakers
Frederick Delius – Sea Drift
These two iconic though very different musical composers embrace two not dissimilar texts. Walt Whitman’s poem, ‘Out of the Cradle Endlessly Rocking’  is only used in part in this gently emotive setting by Delius, whilst Elgar uses a text by Alfred O’Shaughnessy and rather self-consciously uses several themes from other works.
